Her by Alex Book Summary:
Her by Pierre Alex Jeanty is a collection of long and short poems. The subject matter focuses on the woman, as evident from the title. It deals with self-love as well and empowers women to accept themselves. It is a highly appealing yet practical read. Every woman at any time of her life can pick it up and will be able to relate to the poems in it.
Analysis of Her by Alex:
Her is the first book of the trilogy which further has two more books Him and Her Vol. 2. Jeanty was acknowledged as the best observer of females after his books that dealt with women. Therefore, his books are very popular among females of varying ages.
Jeanty dissects the emotions and feelings of women. He uses very short and simple poems to address the topic of love, break-ups, mixed emotions, confusion of growing age, and self-love. Language is very easy and poems have varying meters. Most of the poems have illustrations related to the theme of the poem. The poems are addressed to both male and female readers.
This book is proof that even though females have suffered a lot but the world is now trying to understand her nature. She is appreciated for who she is. The book is therefore a strong take on feminism.
Favorite Extracts from Her:
The book Her by Alex presents poems that work like motivational quotes for those who feel out-casted. The excerpts which I have loved the most are given below:
‘You must never settle
for someone who lacks passion
in their eyes when they stare at you.’
‘She is the type of woman
you never want to stop
making memories with,
the type of woman
Your love should never run dry for.’
‘The day you hold her,
You will feel as if you are carrying
the world and all the beauty in it.’
Some poems are as short as a single line,
‘The love you deserve is meant to last.’
There are beautiful similes scattered in every other poem,
‘Hold her as if she is a newborn,
and it’s the first time
that you’ve laid eyes on her.’
There are breathtaking images,
‘The sun rises behind her smile
and the sunset is in her eyes.’
‘To describe her
is to write
sweet poetry
about the
beauty of life
and survival.’
Few poems have reality checks too,
‘People have a strange way
of telling you that they are guilty
they will start by acting as if they are not.’
The poems also discuss the nature of feminism which does not advocate leaving the females alone to fight or survive,
‘She is independent, but that doesn’t
mean she doesn’t like having someone
she can depend on.’
The book does not attack men to support women,
‘She loves him
more than he’ll ever know,
and he loves her
more than he’ll ever show.
What a tragedy.’
And the poems which simply support her for whatever she is,
‘You have to love the parts of her
that aren’t easy to love
and the parts of her that others
and even herself have struggled to love.’
Concluding Remarks:
The book Her is not for females only, every reader can enjoy the poems. Many poems address topics that are common to both genders, e.g. ‘Love should not cost you your sanity.’ The use of words and illustrations makes the book a highly aesthetic read. It also reveals the modern trends in contemporary poetry.
