Him by Pierre Alex Jeanty – Book Summary And Review

Him book by alex, cover page

Brief Summary:

Him by Pierre Alex Jeanty is a collection of long and short poems. The subject matter is focused on the man. Therefore, each poem is like a mirror to the male psyche. However, it discusses the topics which are left along the margins of male existence. The book is like a gateway to a masculine mind.

Analysis of Him By Alex:

Jeanty is basically known for his poems about women. However, in this book he has taken the liberty of revealing the unseen side of males. This book speaks for men who break the stereotypes revolving around the male gender.

Jeanty explores the emotions and thoughts of men. The language he uses is very simple. The poems are composed majorly with short sentences. He changes the meter and rhyme scheme every now and then.

Him informs the reader that a male is an emotional and affectionate being. But he can be harsh and painful as well. In any phase, he is not the representative of the entire male community. He should be allowed to be himself and so should be the females. The book is a strong take on prejudices that break the bond between a male and a female. Jeanty is strongly in favor of the idea that, ‘There’s enough space for both.’

Favorite Extracts from “Him by Alex”:

The book is a perfect work of art for those who want to look beyond the accepted notion of a man. It is full of profound poems. Here are extracts from a few of the poems which I found simply breathtaking,

‘He is strong for himself

but that does not mean it is his burden

to forever be the strength for both of

you.’

‘If I cannot be a blessing to you,

I will not become a curse.’

‘emotions,

more often than not,

are guilty of pushing us to the

wrong places which we never

should’ve ventured.’

‘I do not lie about love, I am merely still pratising

how to say it in a way that helps my heart join the

chant.’

‘men who are truly on the road of

love cannot hit and run.

They either run, then get hit,

or hit, then walk

with heavy legs,

aching hearts,

and regret chasing after them.’

‘He does not let water run freely

from his eyes because he is afraid

that they will create rivers that will

soon form lakes, then oceans of

pity for him to drown in.

That is why his cry for help is dry.’

And the BEST one,

‘Even if he was God,

you would still deem him to be

Lucifer because he was born in the

flesh of man.

It’s not his fault that all you’ve

known of men is that they are the

best of sinners.’

Concluding Remarks:

Him is the finest book readers can pick up if they are looking for a short but profound read. The language is simple but also full of figurative language to please the aesthetic souls. The book also exposes the modern trends in poetry which can be helpful for those who want to experience more of the contemporary literature.
