Introduction

Ellen, the central character of the novel, is an exhausted full-time Mummy who calls her kids as MOPPETS. It’s the beginning of the summer holidays and it is a horrible nightmare for Ellen. Jane and Peter are her two lovely MOPPETS. She adores her kids like every mother do but she is tired of being a full-time Mummy.

She wants to do something different and special to satisfy her inner talented woman. Also, she wants to earn her own money because earning (own) gives confidence and satisfaction. But the problem is, she does not want to compromise over kids.

She wants to develop an App (Why Mummy Drinks) but has no time to work. The book begins with the beginning of the Summer Holidays and Ellen wants to give her kids some quality time with lots of lovely memories.

She tries to arrange different things like sometimes she goes to historical places with them and sometimes joins camps but every time she returns disappointed because Jane and Peter are more interested in their iPads Simon, her husband is too much busy in his office work and business tours.

To get some ME Time is just a lovely dream for her. Ellen tries her best to be a perfect mummy as well as a successful woman. She is also afraid of a judgmental society. Whenever she goes for an interview she thinks about judgmental remarks by people and also goes on guilt trips for leaving her kids for a job resultantly.

Quote from the Book

Ellen overthinks everything like every other mother on the planet Earth. Her overthinking has been prove when she says,

“If there is a nuclear apocalypse tonight, we needn’t bother trying to survive, because we will all starve anyway because YOU THREW OUT MY EMERGENCY SPAGHETTI HOOPS!”

She has to sacrifice her career to be a perfect mummy sometimes for her own satisfaction and sometimes for judgmental society. Her daughter, Jane wants to be a blogger and spends all her day making Instagram posts. She can’t wait to be 13 and have her personal account. About Peter, Ellen thinks that his IPad has been connected to his umbilical cord.

Basically, this novel is based on the real struggle of a woman who has the spirit to create something but she has been occupied all in all. She is no more optimistic because she thinks that when people are more optimistic they get more depressed and upset by the realities. She is not even sad, she is just disappointed. That hurts.
